Track Shipments: Carrier Awaiting Package
Set up filters and widgets to watch for orders still awaiting pickup after a certain number of days
In This Article
It’s not uncommon for a shipping label to be created, only for the package to accidentally be overlooked during pickup. Stay ahead of these potential slip-ups by creating a filter that flags packages where a label has been created but no carrier scan has occurred after a set number of days, you can proactively identify stalled shipments before they turn into support tickets.
In this article, we’ll show you how to use Postsale’s tools to identify these shipments so that you can take appropriate action and maintain a smooth post-purchase experience:
- We'll create a filter to identify shipments that have a label created, but still show as not being picked up by the carrier after a few days
- We'll add a widget to the Dashboard that shows the number of orders in your new filter
Real-World Example
During a routine carrier pickup, we stumbled on a package that had been missed by the carrier a few days earlier. It had been sitting in our shipping department unnoticed, delaying the customer's delivery by several days.
To avoid situations like this in the future, we want to proactively monitor shipments where a label has been created but the carrier hasn’t picked up the package within a certain timeframe. That way, we can catch issues early and take timely action before they impact the customer.
Before We Begin
This article assumes you’re already working with shipped orders and that you have some experience using the Postsale Dashboard and creating filters.
Filter Shipments with Labels but Not Picked Up by the Carrier
To help identify shipments that may have been missed during pickup, we will create a filter that identifies orders that have a label created for the shipment, but still has a tracking status of Carrier Awaiting Package after three days. Here's how:
Procedure: Select All Orders > Open Advanced Search
- Select All Orders in the Orders Menu.
Selecting All Orders ensures that no criteria have already been added to your search.
- Click the Advanced Search button in the Search Bar.
The Advanced Search pop-up opens.
Shipments with Labels Processed in the Last Three Days
First, let's specify that we want the filter to find orders that have had a label created within the last three days:
- Type Shipment Processed Date into the Field drop-down and select it from the available options.

- Select Is Older Than Days from the Operator drop-down menu.

- Enter the number of days into the Value field.
In this example, we'll enter 3 to specify that the filter should identify orders that a label was processed for three or more days ago. However, you can enter any number of days that works best for your workflow.
- Click Add to add the search criterion to the filter.

The search criterion is added to the filter.
Tracking Status of Carrier Awaiting Package
Next, we will specify that we wish for the filter to find orders that have a tracking status of Carrier Awaiting Package, indicating the package is not yet in the carrier's system and has potentially not yet been picked up.
- Type Label Tracking Status into the Field drop-down and select it from the available options.

- Leave the Operator as Equals. Then, select Carrier Awaiting Package from the Value drop-down.

- Click Add to add the search criterion to the filter.

The criterion is added.
Exclude Voided Shipments
Lastly, let's exclude any shipments that may have been voided so that those do not show in the search results.
- Type Shipment Status into the Field drop-down and select it from the available options.

- Select Not Equals from the Operator drop-down menu.

- Select Voided from the Value drop-down menu.

- Click Add to add the search criterion to the filter.

The criterion is added.
Save Your Filter
- Click Save As.

- (Optional) Click the magnifying glass icon and select an icon for this Filter.
The icon will be displayed next to the Filter in the Orders Menu.
- Enter a name for the filter. Then, click Save.
Your search is saved as a Filter in the Orders Menu. Select the Filter to view orders that had a label processed three or more days ago and is still in the Carrier Awaiting Package status.

Add a Widget to the Dashboard
Add a widget to the Dashboard so that you can see the total number of orders in your new filter at a glance. This is a quick and easy way to monitor for packages that may have been missed during pickup.
