Protect Your Shipments with Shipsurance
Cover your shipments against loss or damage with Shipsurance
In This Article
Shipping mishaps are uncommon, but when they happen they can be costly. Adding parcel insurance with Shipsurance through Postsale gives you an easy, cost-effective way to protect your shipments and recover losses if a package is lost or damaged in transit.
Shipsurance offers parcel insurance for both domestic and international shipments sent with major carriers like USPS, UPS, and FedEx. And because it's built right into Postsale, you can insure your packages and file claims with just a few clicks while saving up to 78% compared to carrier shipment protection rates.
In this article, we will show you how to cover your shipments with Shipsurance parcel insurance.
Before We Begin
This article assumes that you have orders in Postsale that are ready to ship, have connected at least one shipping carrier account, and that you are familiar with the process of creating shipping labels in Postsale.
In addition, it is important to note that:
- Shipsurance can be used to cover the full value of the package. Coverage cannot be combined with the carrier's declared value coverage.
- Shipsurance can be added to domestic and international shipments originating from the continental United States, Hawaii, or Alaska.
Cover a Shipment with Shipsurance
Let's take a look at how to add Shipsurance parcel insurance to a single shipment. Check out our Automatically Add Shipment Protection help article to learn how to configure Postsale to automatically apply Shipsurance parcel insurance to your shipments.
Real World Example
We have one order with a value large enough that we would like to add Shipsurance to cover the shipment. Since we only need to add protection to one shipment, we will add it manually.
Procedure: Search for > Select Order > Shipment
- Search for and select the order in the Orders Grid.

- Verify that the shipment is selected in the Dock.
- Expand the Package section. Then, check the Shipment Protection checkbox.
By default, the selected shipping carrier's shipment protection is applied to the shipment.
- Click the Provider drop-down menu and select Shipsurance.

- Select either Items or Other from the Value Source drop-down menu.
- Items: Specifies that you wish for the sum of the prices of all items on the order to be submitted as the coverage amount.
-
Other: Allows you to manually enter the coverage amount. (Be sure to enter the correct amount of coverage into the Amount field.)

Based on the Package Value you enter, the cost to add Shipsurance protection is displayed for you so that you know exactly what you will pay. (Domestic shipments: $0.75 per $100 and International shipments: $1.25 per $100)
You can also view the rate to ship the package and the Shipsurance fee separately in the Rate Selector.
Add Shipsurance to Multi-Package Shipments
When a single shipment is configured with multiple packages:
- Shipment protection is added to all packages in the shipment.
- Each package's value is entered individually:
- Select the package.
- Set Other as the Value Source.
- Enter the value of the package into the Package Value field.

The shipment protection you specified will now be added to the shipment when the shipping label is created.
Shipsurance Terms and Conditions
The first time you create a label with Shipsurance coverage selected, you will be prompted to review and accept the Shipsurance Terms and Conditions:
- Verify that the Insured Contact Information is correct. Use the available link to update the information if needed.
- Shipsurance requires that the insurer's contact information is provided for handling insurance and claims. This is the contact information for the person responsible for adding coverage and for handling Shipsurance claims for your shipments.
- Your Shipsurance contact information can be updated any time by going to Settings > Carrier Settings. Then, select Edit Contact Info in the Shipsurance Settings section.
- Review the terms and conditions.
- Then, click the Accept button.
The label will now be created.
