Components of a Correct Military Address Military Address Example Good To Know

Sending mail to United States military personnel requires specific addressing protocols to ensure accurate and efficient delivery. Military postal addresses differ from standard civilian addresses and require proper formatting to ensure packages are successfully delivered to armed forces personnel stationed domestically and internationally.

Components of a Correct Military Address

The good news is that formatting military addresses in Postsale is not difficult. To help simplify things a bit, we have listed the available Postsale address fields and which component of a military address should be entered into each field.

By following these guidelines, you'll help ensure that packages reach service members efficiently and accurately, supporting those who serve our country.

  • Full Name: Enter the complete name and military rank of the service member.
  • Company: Leave blank
  • Address Line 1: Include the service member's unit information
  • Address Line 2: PO Box number
  • City: Enter the appropriate military post office designation
    • APO (Army Post Office)
    • FPO (Fleet Post Office)
    • DPO (Diplomatic Post Office)
  • State: Select from three specific options:
    • Armed Forces Americas (AA)
    • Armed Forces Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Canada (AE)
    • Armed Forces Pacific (AP)
  • Zip/Postal Code: Enter the correct zip/postal code
    • Postal code ranges by region
      • Armed Forces Americas (AA): 34000 - 34099
      • Armed Forces Europe (AE): 09000 - 09899
      • Armed Forces Pacific (AP): 96200-96699
  • Country: Always select United States of America

Military Address Example

Here is an example of a military address and how the information is entered into Postsale.

SSG John Smith
123rd Military Intelligence Battalion
PO Box 12345
APO AE 09012
United States of America

Good To Know

  • When shipping to military addresses, small details matter. We suggest double-checking to ensure all information, such as the recipient's rank, exact unit number, PO Box, and postal code are correct.
  • The recipient's email address and phone number are not required. However, including a phone number can be helpful in case of delivery issues or customs-related inquiries (especially for international shipments).
  • Military addresses within the United States use standard domestic addressing conventions rather than APO/FPO/DPO military designations. For service members stationed within the continental U.S., use their base's standard U.S. address format with the appropriate city, state, and postal code (Fort Bragg, NC 28310, etc.).
