Quick Tip Video FedEx & UPS Multi-Package Shipments USPS Multi-Package Shipments

Postsale gives you the tools to create multiple shipping labels for a single order. This can be useful when:

  • The items on the order require being shipped in more than one package
  • In some cases, it may be cheaper to split the order into multiple smaller packages

The process for creating multiple shipping labels for a single order depends on which carrier you are using to fulfill the order.

This article will guide you through:

  • Creating and tracking multi-package shipments when shipping with FedEx and UPS
  • Creating and tracking multiple shipments for a single order when shipping with USPS

Quick Tip Video

We also have a Quick Tip video that covers the information in this help article!

FedEx & UPS: Expand to View

When shipping with FedEx or UPS, you have the option to create multiple packages associated with a single shipment. An individual shipping label is printed for each package.

Add Multiple Packages to a Shipment

To add an additional package to a FedEx or UPS shipment:

  1. Expand the Package section of the Dock.

The Package section of the dock is being expanded.

  2. Click the + button located to the right of the Package section's title.
A new package will be added and displayed in a list of available packages.

  3. Configure the correct weight, dimensions, and any other setting for the package.
Learn how to import weights from a scale.

  4. Use the + Add button to add more packages as needed or the Delete button to remove packages from the shipment.

The add and delete package buttons are highlighted in the package section of the dock.

  5. Click the Create X Label button to create a shipping label for each package.
Once the labels have been created, the Print Labels and Void Labels buttons will correctly indicate the number of labels that can be printed and/or voided.

Track FedEx & UPS Multi-Package Shipments

For FedEx and UPS multi-package shipments, a master tracking number is generated along with individual tracking numbers for each label.

The master tracking number is displayed on the Orders Grid in Postsale. When you track the shipment from either the orders grid or from the Dock, the tracking number and status information for each label is listed.

A multi-package FedEx shipment is being tracked. All of the associated tracking numbers and statuses are displayed.

For this example, FedEx was used. However, the same process is used when tracking UPS.

USPS Multi-Package Shipments

USPS: Expand to View

USPS does not support multiple packages associated with a single shipment. When an order needs to be shipped in more than one package with USPS, instead of multiple packages associated with a shipment you'll add multiple shipments to the order and then create a shipping label for each shipment. Each shipment can then be tracked in Postsale.

Here's how:

Add Multiple Shipments

To add multiple shipments to an order shipping with USPS:

  1. Select the first shipment in the Dock.
  2. Click the Copy button to create a duplicate of the selected shipment.

  3. Select the new shipment. Then, configure the correct weight, dimensions, and any other setting for the package.
Learn how to import weights from a scale.

The copied shipment is selected and the packages section is expanded.

  4. Repeat the process for as many shipments as you need. Then, create the shipping labels for each shipment.

The create two labels button is being clicked.

Track Shipments

Tracking shipments related to a single order can be done in the Dock.

  1. Select the order and open the Dock.
  2. Select the shipment you wish to track.
  3. Click the tracking magnifying glass to view tracking and status information.

The orders is selected and the Dock is open. Only one shipments is selected and the tracking button is being clicked.
